ANW Reading series – Ionesco

Eugène Ionesco

***

Celebrate Ionesco! Head over to A Noise Within”™s theatre in Glendale to enjoy a staged reading by their acclaimed Resident Artists.

Report by Pauline Adamek

On Wednesday, May 18th, the company will read two dazzling one-act plays, The Lesson and The Bald Soprano, by French absurd playwright Eugene Ionesco.

If you”™ve never seen these classic and seldom staged short plays, now”™s your chance to hear them being brought to life.

Eug̬ne Ionesco was a Romanian and French playwright and dramatist, and one of the foremost playwrights of the Theatre of the Absurd. Beyond ridiculing the most banal situations, IonescoӪs plays depict in a tangible way the solitude and insignificance of human existence.

Ionesco is considered one of the most ingenious and innovative dramatists of the 20th Century. Explosively and liberatingly funny, with startling and often scathing observations on the human condition, these remarkable plays profoundly altered the face of modern drama when they made their debut during the 1950s and 60s.
