Coming soon to The Fountain is a series of events where you can gain a glimpse of the work of young, up-and-coming playwrights. The Fountain Theatre’s ‘Rapid Development Series’ for young writers is a free, competition-style reading series designed to showcase the work of previously unproduced, Los Angeles-based playwrights under the age of 30.
Round One takes place over the course of two evenings, Friday, Feb, 12 at 8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m.
Each evening will feature one scene from two different plays, with the playwrights choosing the scenes they feel best represent their work. At the end of each night, the audience votes.
The two winning playwrights get to show off a little more of their plays in Round Two, on Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m.
The single surviving play wins two performances of a staged reading on the Fountain Theatre stage:
Friday, March 18 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 19 at 2 p.m.
Free admission is available to Rounds One and Two; tickets to the staged readings are $5. 00 each.

Round One, GROUP A:
• Friday, Feb. 12 at 8.p.m.:
You Belong With Me Because You’re So Vain by Heider Tunarrosa, about a neurotic songwriter who falls in love with his best friend’s ex-boyfriend and must choose between the two. Help arrives in the form of the imaginary versions of Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
Directed by Emma Agerwald, and featuring George Avalotus, Faith D’Amato, Jamie Paiz Phillips and Jose Picado.

The Kennedy Experiment by Amy Thorstenson, in which a young cosmonaut aboard the International Space Station faces an impossible choice. With the lives of his family, his patriotism, his complicated relationship with his war hero father, and World War III all hanging in the balance, the last thing he needs to deal with is a ghost.
Directed by Chad Eschman, and featuring Jesse Abbott Chin, Eugene Alper, Faith D’Amato and James Harper.
Round One, GROUP B:
• Friday, Feb. 19 at 8.p.m.:
Another Troy by John Johnson, about the perplexity of grief in a war that is happening both far away and in our living rooms. Photojournalist and war correspondent Arthur Hess has made his living taking photos of some of the world’s most violent places — but when his eldest daughter is publically murdered, it is the photo he takes of her corpse that threatens to destroy both his family and his name. Inspired by The Orestia. (Director and cast TBA.)

Intentions by Abbey Fenbert, a comedy about the lengths we will go to — and the lies we will believe — to further our principles and desires. Tillerman House isn’t just a residence, it’s an intentional community. Shit is organic, sustainable, local, shade-grown, fair-trade and cruelty-free— and if it isn’t, Nell (who helped draft the bylaws) will be sure to right it. Until Leif joins. Does the ethos of tolerance extend to an ex-fratbro who doesn’t know a ‘zine from a zen garden? (Director and cast TBA.)
